Misty, you remove that 'carrier' by removing the needle plate (two screws on the top of the needleplate - not under the machine.) Take out the bobbin and bobbin case first, of course. Wipe it off with SM oil and look for any rough spots. When you put it back, be sure the 'finger' fits in the groove on the bottom of the needle plate before you tighten the screws. There is a page in the user's manual that shows this this. If you don't have one, you can download a free one from sew-classic. I think ISMACS has one, too.) One little ball of compressed lint can cause all kinds of problems. I'm using Connecting Threads thread right now and it's so linty my 301 told me she needed an extra cleaning. The bobbin just wasn't happy.

Talking about Sears machines. We saw one last summer that was a treadle and had Sears Robuck all over it. On the irons and the foot treadle. Had a cabinet that was in bad shape and had a coffen top. They wanted $50.00 for it. Reason for not buying was we would have had to carry it about 1/4 mile back to the truck. Tooo much for two old people to deal with. But, DH is still kicking his butt for not buying it. So you can bet if it should be back come June when the Flea Market is on again it will come home with us. This is the same Flea M. we bought the 12K mother of pearl machine. Usually have lots of machines just have to carry so far back to your truck or car.
Thanks Trish! I swear there are always exceptions to everything! Nancy |
There are manuals on line if you search.

Nancy, thanks. She did fine with her second surgery and should be fine now. This cat is worth her weight in gold now...
Did you catch my posting about finding out that the 319 is capable of lowering the feed dogs after all? Nancy |

Some of my machines I leave the feed dogs up when I FMQ...however not the Pfaffs as their feed dog teeth seem to be pointier.
Sharon W. p.s. I seem to have lots of answers today. lol Nancy |

It doesn't matter on the 319. The needle bar seems to hit the hopping foot in a weird spot. I've found lowering the feed dogs is my preference on any machine. And I have so many that if a machine doesn't have the capability, I use one that does.
Let us know if you find a hopping foot that works on the 319w! I will look too! Maybe Cathy has one? Nancy |

Nancy, this is the pretty shamrock machine. That's a big MW on the arm and there is a permanent shiny ID on the motor that says Montgomery Wards, plus something underneath, too.
