I have an old Necchi in the shop - DH found it in the hoarder stash - he sure did have a gleam in the eye when he pulled it up - it is going to be a while before mine would move well enough to treadle - locked up solid... Seems like a very heavy well made machine. I would love to see one that moved freely. I bet it would sew through about anything and do some real nice FM work. I should dig it out and oil it some more. I can't remember if it will zz - maybe some day.

Also, one more note: I will no longer be answering questions sent to me privately from posters. I have had too many of these sent to me from a first time poster or newly joined member.

I generally don't get PMs from new members of the board, but I understand your concern about that - asking for an email reply instead of using the board is a red flag to me. I agree that questions should be asked on the board. Then we can all learn from the answers.

That wasn't a dumb question, and most questions aren't. If folks would just read and/or do their own researching, then they would not look "stupid".

I understand the feeling if they had gotten burned from another group, that can happen.

My feeling is that if you have your board name, and even makeup false info for the board name, you can then post the question on this thread for others to answer without them knowing your real identity. And then, there is no reason to hide and send a private message...geez... we are only talking about vintage sewing machines.

YUP! A big red flag to me also.

Nancy, If you want a Necchi, save for a Supernova. When the Necchi Supernovas came out they were considered the Ferrari of the sewing machines. I'm sure that I'm one of the few that treadle a Supernova Ultra; and one day after the novelty wears off, I'll put the motor back on so that the machine runs at the speed it is designed for.

The Supernovas are fun machines to play with the decorative stitching, and excellent machines to sew clothes with!

That happened to me once. I immediately let an adminstrator know and they took that person off the board.

I think you need a black one now:>

I just checked my Necchi. It looks very much like that one from the back, though mine is in better condition. Belt looks a llittle rough, but that's no problem. Mine has the VN logo, which means it is pre 1949-50. Necchi dropped the V for Vittorio in 1950. Mine is only a straight stitch machine and does have a BF on the pillar.

I'm in withdrawal. No new machines since the MW. I saw three at the Habitat for Humanity store, but none came home wirh me. An old 66 with scary wiring, a 99 that needs some TLC and a treadle head so worn I couldn't read it. Guess which machine turned the easiest and wanted to sew? The well used mystery.

Had a good day SM hunting. 2 Singer 201-2's complete with no cabinets for $40. First bargain I've found on CL around here in months.
