Guess some figure a sewing machine is only good for setting knick knacks and TV's on top of.
I WISH / DREAM ebay and CL sellers would write the "obvious" serial numbers in their descriptions such as Davis, Singer, and others.

Can't wait to see the pink/red sewing machine!! I just love the different colors of the un-Singers.

Happy Anniversary, Charlee (and William)! A toy sewing machine would be my guess on the gift.

Better guess would be Frister and Rossmann though, on second thought.

Thanks Melinda! And no...not an F&R, altho I might have chosen that one before I knew that this one is harder to find here in the States! :) You're on the right track tho....it's German....

Another clue: It was made in Altenburg, East Germany. :)

Yep, that does indeed look like a Davis. The top is thick, and the little curlycues on the front drawer look just like my cabinet for my NVF. That price is high, but maybe they would deal. Anyone looking for a Davis? This is a good prospect.

You know, I've never been able to get the front open on my NVF. I had started to decide it wasn't a drawer, and was just a trim piece. Any one have a picture of that drawer open, so I can figure out where to tap? Laura

I knew that machine had your name on it!
Your true red one will find you one day - when you least expect it!

Well, I purchased that (red) Japanese Sterling that all the hub bub was about yesterday. It really is not 'red' but a dark pink. Still a cute machine, though. I thought maybe it had faded from red to pink, but no this machine was painted a dark pink. Even the cord and motor are pink. It has a manual, which is nice as they usually never do! It is complete - bobbin winder and all - nothing missing nor broken. The only thing I can see that needs replacing is the bobbin winder tire. I won't have time for a few days to clean and oil the machine. I am busy right now on something else. I will post a picture in a couple days, when I have the time to really clean it, oil it and try sewing with it.

I am thinking, though, it is fun to have a machine with some color! Something besides, black, white, or mocha!

:) Candace got it! It is a Köhler. Not quite as early as those, This one is from the 40's or early 50's and it does have some cosmetic issues. Here are the "before cleaning/before restoring" pics. William is rather mortified that I didn't at least dust it before pics...I told him that y'all have seen dust before!! :D
