Questions and thoughts keep coming to my mind.

How does one respond to a person that you meet for the first (or second) time that states, " I have been known to get up and move to a new seat or just leave a class or group gathering because of disliking the people near me".

Well, this happened to me. I was so dumbfounded that I didn't know how to respond at the time. I just smiled and said oh. The first time I met this person making such a comment was too brief for us to chat. This was our second meeting when she came out with such a statement.

Well, that person did pack up and leave early that day. She was sitting across the table from me. I didn't say anything to insult her. I don't know if she was sending a message to me by leaving, but to this day I'm wondering what the heck really happened that day.

Doesn't that person making such a comment realize the message that they are sending to others. A message of I don't value you as a worthy person. Should one judge so soon onto others that they meet for the first time.

So, I think now on these words about the thoughts of the movie "How to Make an American Quilt", and I try not to judge.

How does one respond nicely to a comment like that?

Should I have just reseated myself elsewhere? That way both of us would be comfortable from that point on.

Such a shame because we can all learn from each other.

Sorry this is off topic from sewing, but we all take classes.

This reminds me of a time when I attended a quilting party just after Thanksgiving. There was a raffle table full of fabrics with Christmas themes. Numerous folks were standing around the table admiring some of the fabrics. Someone asked one gal if she was going to purchase a ticket. The gal screamed out in a nasty tone "I'm Jewish, I'm Jewish". That day, I wish I had told her, "GOD doesn't judge. Those fabrics could be made up to keep someone warm".

Sometimes it is best to ignore rude behaviour like hers and other times not.

And with that..... God bless you Laura.

Years ago, when we had a guild in this town I went out to sew blocks for a raffel quilt. Well, I was a bit late in ariving and took the last seat, with a newbie. Rude person for sure, and sure she knew it all after one class at the local shop. She started out by refusing to change the light blue bobbin thread as that was a waste of money, and took offence to any and all who even looked at her work. Well I went to do coffee and visit some of the other gals and then went back to my machine. Son of a gun, my block had a huge mistake. Well my jaw dropped and I was very surprised. Rude nuwbie is packing up and saying in a very loud voice " just goes to show you old quilter's (I am younger than her) don't know it all" "I am a better peicer than all of you " ect. I turned the block over....light blue bobbin thread!!!
More nerve than Dick Tracey!

I think that's one of the funniest stories I've ever heard. Wow, wow, wow!

I've been sitting here this morning trying to catch up on all the posts I've missed. Our cabin remodel has taken up all my time the last couple of weeks and I am feeling quilting deprived. I brought a couple of projects to work on this summer but haven't been able to finish anything. Even though I found 3 vintage machines this summer, I haven't been able to work on them either. So, I'm just jealous reading about you all having so much fun with your machines and getting so much quilting done.... but the remodel is almost done.... only 2 or 3 weeks to go.... I hope.

I went to Rochester MN Gold Rush flea/antique market. Was looking for just one thing. A 301 singer.Sorry to say I did not stop any in Onoco or Rochester.

I have a table for a 301 ( looks like a card table). Can anyone tell me if I need a 301 with a long or short flip up arm? I am thinking it take a short arm.

Also any info how looking for a 301 would help out. I see many on ebay, but not sure which one would be the best.

You can go here to compare your table http://www.ismacs.net/singer_sewing_..._cabinets.html There are a couple of different tables that will fit the 301 short bed or long bed. So, it depends on which table you have. Mine fits, short bed 301's, 401's and 500 machines.
