I have trouble keeping up with all those new threads - mostly the same old same old. they expect NEW answers? I just send a link that should cover most of the potential problems. As far as it goes links can be made between here and the photo section - it isn't rocket science. Yes this can be hard to follow unless you keep up with the reading. I just don't bother to read all those new threads - topics go like, I found a vintage *** at the thrift store then they either want to know what it is or how it works or what it is worth or figure out what is wrong with it. What ever. Joe that should keep you busy answering all the questions - about once a week someone wants to know why their machine skips stitches or why the tension doesn't work. When I do catch it I refer them to a thread I spent a lot of time putting together so they can trouble shoot it themselves. If you have time to answer each question every time they come back up I guess you can stay busy.

We may need more stickys - maybe something a bit better done than the ones I regularly refer to... I was getting very tired of answering the same old questions every couple days. I believe Muv did her video for that very reason. Also I found Muv's video as I was searching for things on line. Then later I found out she was a QB member LOL She has done a very fine job of presenting her information. Miriam, It takes a lot of time to compile that information. First you have to google and hunt for what looks good, easy to follow, and then you have to spend the time linking or uploading to this site.

And if you make your own tutorial that also take a lot of time, but well worth it! It is nice to be able to share what we discover or learn to the QB. Not everyone finds the same information; so, this type of sharing can benefit many.

My best suggestion is to first google and search, and then if you can't figure it out ask. One would be surprised at what one learns from googling and researching.

Now as far as my new Viking 6010 goes - it sews perfectly! I paid $35 for the machine and the 4 cams A, B,C, & D, along with a really nice blue case. It had no extra feet, attachments, and only 1 bobbin. It looks like an "L" type bobbin? Candace, Pat, Cathy? Anyway, it was frozen so we took it apart (DH and I) today as much as we could. Those darn things are cast in one piece! We could only get the free arm part apart, take the HW off and go in from the back! How do you get into those machines Candace? Ok back to my machine, after taking it apart and oiling everything we could get to we were able to turn the HW slowly. We kept working and working it until it would turn pretty easily. The machine was not dirty, not cruded up, just extremely dry! Well, DH went and got his drill, plugged the drill in - connected it to the HW bar and started the drill. The machine turned smoothly and sewed like crazy. He did that for a while, while I oiled some more then we put the machine back together, plugged it in, and pressed on the foot pedal. It sews perfectly, quietly, smoothly! It was just very very dry!

I wouldn't recommend trying this on your own - we could have ruined this machine if it had been gummed up or something, but we could tell there was nothing broken, all the belts (3 of them) were in great shape!

Oh and on a fun note, the lady we got this Viking 6010 from said it was her grandmother's machine. She remembered being shut in the bedroom when ever her grandmother's customers came over for fittings. The grandmother was a seamstress for a group of strippers! The little girl had to stay behind closed doors until the strippers tried on their costumes to make sure the costumes would come off nicely! I thought that was hilarious!:thumbup:

Too cute! I like how your husband and you figured a way to get the machine turning, cleverly done.

I've used other message boards like this and each person, instead of "hijacking" a group thread, was encouraged to start their own, so, not knowing the history of this board, I did just that...started my own thread, and then when I had a question, I would post that as well.

I usually start with this thread, the pictures, the giggles...then I go to my subscribed threads. That's where I put any thread that I've commented on or one that I have a particular interest in. It can be time consuming, but I always find it informative and appreciate the wealth of information here. Thanks everyone!

Hi Barb,

"hijacking", another term to learn. :) Well when Billy started this thread, he stated it was open to discussion of multiple subjects, from vintage machines to food. I'm guilty of chatting about subjects other than vintage machines.

What I enjoy about this site is that an attachment of a photo can be uploaded with a post, so that one reads post and immediately sees the subject matter, vintage sewing machine or quilt. It just makes the sharing more personal, easier to answer questions with a photo, and rewarding to all readers.
