A lady came to the shop with an old Elna. She wanted me to put on a new foot control. We checked it over and decided it wasn't the foot control. I had one from another machine - it did the same thing her's did - ran then quit. So I asked if I could look inside the machine. I ran it with the top off - blue streaking out of the motor. Too bad - it's a nice machine. Those machines have the motor ways inside - lots of stuff has to come off...
Tomorrow I'm hoping I can have a clean up the shop day for a while.... I hate it when things get all cluttered up. Seems like it gets a point of no return awful fast. Must be the elves that live in the Cinderella machine's case.... Sneaky little buggers - some how they let machines in there, too and they never ever fix them. |

The Empress could be in a treadle, but now it sits in box on my bookshelf looking very very pretty, like a true empress. :D She's missing the plates, cabinet, and treadle. One day I should make a top for her to sit in and swap some treadle feet for her, but for now she sits smiling while overseeing the other machines doing the work. She's a cute machine! |

Hi Folks- I've been reading along but haven't had much to say for a while. For some reason, no new machines have crossed my path untill today ( Wait a minute. I haven't seen Mizkaki in three weeks, I haven't had a new machine in three weeks....coincidence?:)) Annnyhoo I picked up a GREEN Necchi BU and it is clearly wired wrong. It came in a cabinet, with a knee control that had burn marks. And horrible, crumbling wiring. No problem, I'd rather have a foot control. So, I find a spare foot control and wire that to the place where the knee control was wired. So far, so good. I plug it in. It takes off, full speed. I didn't change the wiring that went to the power- it looked like it had been redone lately, as it was brown instead of green. So, either I did something to the machine when I changed the knee to a foot control, or whoever re-wired it did something to the machine, and that's why. Anyone got any ideas? Laura

Laura, It was most likely rewired wrong before you got it. The motor is wired directly to the power side so it will run full speed when you plug the machine in. The current is not passing thru the foot control in effect you have by passed it.

I am not trying to make it sound trivial, but I have a "stomp shear" with a graduated backstop. so I can cut very accurate strips, then turn them 90 deg and set for length. I do 16ga steel on a regular basis, so it has the umph. I have a bench punch that can do holes up to 1.25"dia (for the ones with a"bite:" out of them. I have a 2"x36" professional grade vertical belt sander with a backstop for making the bevels. It only takes me about 30 minutes to make a pair of "regular rectangular" slides. I would make them a hair large so people could file them to a perfect fit. (unless I have the machine in question, then I can fit it) I am making a replacement slide for a W&W8 this weekend. (the one with the bent down end that seems to be missing 1/2 the time) and I am making a pair of slides for Cathy(Mizkaki) |

OK, think I found the wiring problem. On the back is a plastic contact point that fits a cord. The picture is with the cord removed. The contacts pierce the cord when the cover is screwed down tight. Only two of the contacts were touching the cord. I'm sure that the third is not a spare:thumbdown:. So, I just have to figure out which way the cord goes in. Does anyone have a Necchi BU that they could look on the back of and tell me if the cord exits left or right? Laura
