Janis, I hadn't thought about putting the pedal on the table. That might be a good idea. But since I have the HC.... I think I'll try that first.

Miriam, I like the 3x5 card idea with their name on it. I ordered the needle guards (2) on Monday. I have 2 great grand daughters.... the older one is a step-GGD and is very anxious to learn to make something. I think we'll try to make a laundry bag and sew her name on it. I've made those for all my kids and grandkids and they always take them with them for trips and overnights. It will be an easy 1st project for the older one. The younger one is only 4 but she is a big 4 in height and mind. I can't believe some of the grown-up wording she uses. She's the one I think the HC will be most suited to. She wants to do whatever big sissy does. They won't be here until the 1st of July but I need to be ready.

Pennycandy, yes I'm so excited for the neighbor to get this machine up and working. She called 3 times yesterday giving me updates. We found the manual on ismacs and she's been going over that. Such fun!!

Not everything works out as well as you might hope even with the best tools and equipment available to you. I was trying to remove a flange on an upper shaft and it broke. I was using a torch and a gear puller at the time this happened. Sadly, I will have to shelf this project for the time being. :(

Oh Grant, that is awful!! It looks like white metal (my dad was a welder) and that doesn't repair easily. Will you look for another machine to steal the part from?

What brand and model is that machine? It looks familiar but I can't recall what it is.

Nanna, it is cast and machined. Yes, difficult to weld and because the handwheel rides up against it, it needs to be perfectly true. This is an uncommon machine so finding a part or donor machine is unlikely. I think I will just put it aside for now and see if anything comes along. The sad part is, I was trying to do right by this poor old neglected machine and already had it 3/4 of the way there. As you can see, it is still on the machine. It needs to come off to service the motor as the motor is cast into the head and has hidden wiring. Unfortunately, it is likely to become a donor machine itself but I am in no hurry to strip it down.

Joe, it is a National Rotary, but I have seen many badged with different names. Some have the crinkle paint on them too. It has the cast into the head motor, pivoting "slideplate", flat faceplate with the upper tension on it. I know you have seen them before too. Here is a shot of it from the front as I got it. And yes I said OOPs. I was using an oxy-acetylene torch and got it cherry red and it still wouldn't budge.:(

I'll bet there's a ridge of rust or some other crud inside that is preventing it from coming off. Or, hidden screws. I've seen that before, and later found the hidden screws after I'd broken them. :(

One of my friends says "bad word,bad word,really bad word". lol Ooh that looks awful.

I fixed the Pfaff 1222E!! I opened the foot control,cleaned all the dog fur out and took an pencil eraser to all the parts in there. The innards of the foot pedal is so simple compared with the old Singer controllers. :shock:

I have a White DRESSMASTER that came to me with a bent and cracked needle bar housing. I tried to straighten it but it completely broke. I figured it would.
I JBWelded it and it's good to go. The repair would be near invisible if I use some OD green paint to touch up the area.
