I just got a new one for my 404 that was missing the bobbin cover. I was having a hard time getting it on and the new spring just didn't seem to fit. Then I discovered the old one was still there (no wonder it wouldn't fit!) and after a bit of maneuvering it went on perfectly. So now I have a spare spring.

I'd love to see pictures of BOTH of them once you get the second one. :)

One arrived today and it was locked up. I stripped it down and started tinkering, it seemed to be the bobbin area. No rust, insides are clean, what goes here. Someone had put the bobbin case back in wrong. Still got a slight problem with the tension and the spring for the bobbin cover doesn't hold it in place but it stitches just fine. Can't wait to see the second one.

Has anyone ever heard of, or been to, a Sewing Machine Show? Kind of like a car show but for sewing machines? It would be where people could come and show off their machines and get a trophy or something like that. Or is this just a dumb idea?

Sounds like a brilliant idea to me, but we're the only ones who'd go! :p

I think it is a GREAT idea, would you do it online or in a physical location? I would love to be involved, volunteer or course, if you decide to do something like this. Would you tack it on as a, for lack of a better word, event at a National Quilt Show? What about National Sponsors for the prizes?

I was thinking that it would be a local or regional thing like a car show/cruise night, if you know what that is. I had the idea partly because I was prompted by two friends of mine to enter two machines in an art show in August. Yes, an actual art show with paintings and sculptures etc. I hesitated at first but because many of the machines I have restored are used mainly for decoration. I just thought that it could be a neat thing to do to expose people that do not know about Antique and Vintage machines to see what they are about and talk with the owners of the machines as well as networking among the sewing community.

Sign me up! In fact I think this should be elevated to it's own thread.....

Sort of what we do at TOGAs. We like to show off our machines!! But so far, no trophies!! Just lots of "Ooooohs" and "Ahhhhhs".

You know, when I am at the art show I will inquire about the venue space. I will try to take some pix too. As well as get feedback from people. Steve, if I can figure out how to do it, I will try to start a thread here too after the Art Show and let you all know how the idea is received.
Miz. Johnny, I really don't sew much because I am always fixing machines, but I would be interested in going to a local TOGA. How do I find one in my area? I live in the Chicago suburbs. I don't know where to start.

LOL I could do my own show.... I have a ton right now. I've bought just about every derelict machine that has crossed my path and put them back to work and looking cheerful again.
