Billy,
I found these two treadles on CL here in San Diego. I am going to go look at them. I have never heard of Minnesota. Do you think these are reasonable prices? I was hoping to find some like others did for $30. http://sandiego.craigslist.org/csd/clt/1725708697.html http://sandiego.craigslist.org/nsd/atq/1725295412.html http://sandiego.craigslist.org/nsd/atq/1724857008.html http://sandiego.craigslist.org/csd/atq/1724614588.html http://sandiego.craigslist.org/esd/atq/1722670668.html There are many more on the list but wanted to focus on a treadle. If there is something you would like me to scout out for you I would be glad to do that. |

Stratford Sewing Machine- Model # MES9 or ME59?-Westinghouse Electric & Mfg. Co. Style # 281650 This machine has been for sale for a while.....it started out around $40 but it seems no one is touching it with a 10 foot pole......it is now going for $20. Can't tell much from the picture but I can't find out anything about it either.... What is this if you know, Billy? |
WOW, this one is amazing. I thought I got a find for $135, and it is no where in this kind of shape. Great find, and glad it has a good home and finally got out of the closet. I posted my pics of Abby in the Picture section, should have posted them here.

The 185's are just a 99 in a new dress. Then the one for $40 would be at the house now!!! But the Minnesota was sold by Sears in the good old days. It was their brand name before Kenmore. The Singer "Red Eye" and the model 27 would have to stay where they are, I have bought better for less! Billy |
Well, I did it and Billy you talked me into it....I bought the NECCHI today, I also bought a NEW HOME that I think just became my favorite machine, it sews like a dream. The NECCHI needs a new power cord so I don't know if it runs or not but when I take her home and change the cord, I'll find out. I'll try to get the NEW HOME serial number when I get home so you can tell me what a find I made. She's SUPER quiet. The asking price for the NECCHI was $75 and $70 for the NEW HOUSE, I paid $100 for the pair. Do you think that was a good buy, Billy?

You can not beat the quality of the reliability of a vintage machine! I am soooo tickled that everyone is starting to notice and even becoming interested in the vintage machines including the treadles. And the fact that a lot of you are willing to preserve and to service them DIY!! Billy |
Thanks Billy, I will let you know how it goes. Not sure but maybe I can buy them both
So you would not bother with the Minnesota? Is it because they are too common or just because you prefer Singers? |

Alrighty I have had a question pop up about the polish I use and where to find it.
I use Scotts Liquid Gold in the pour bottle and I buy mine at Lowes but I am sure most dollar stores and Wally World will have it. The reason I like this stuff is that it will not hurt the finish of the machine, you can use it on the wood also and it is readily available and relatively cheap! Also it will not get on the material like the sewing machine oil will so thats another reason I like it so much. So here is what the bottle looks like.....
