I also just thought of something to tell all my good friends here at VMS: a short time ago, I answered a craigslist ad about 3 vintage/antique Singer machines a lady was selling. On one, the decals looked... odd. Very garish/colorful. The S/N was also very odd. Looked like an old machine. With help of some on this site, I was able to find out that it was NOT a vintage/old machine, it was of new manufacture. The lady was also billing her FW as antique.... but I wasn't buying it. I emailed her back and without accusing her of anything, informed her that her one machine at least was a copy or new manufacture and was not a vintage Singer at all. I didn't hear back from her. Last week, she posted the same ad again, the same pictures of the machines, again as antique/vintage. So be careful, be wise and educated! That's why I LOVE this site!

Maybe, she really doesn't understand that repro treadles are still being made. The repro treadles and repro vintage machines are fine if that is what you want and realize that is what you are buying. If this lady is really trying to pull a fast one, you know you can flag her ad as a misrepresentation (or something to the equivalent) so Craigslist is aware she is trying to pull a fast one. If you post the listing, we could send her the same little question about whether or not these are really vintage machines. It would be sad for someone who really wants a vintage to end up with a repro because they didn't realize. The fact that you brought it to her attention, was ignored, then she reposted, tells me she is aware that these are not the real thing. The antique in the ad is what says 'redflag' this gal. If I posted an ad and someone questioned the machines, I'd sure reply back for more information or at least reply back that I know they are the real thing!

Oh while I am thinking about it here is the newest "keeper" in my collection. The reason I said that was because I bought another machine yesterday that I am going to sell on here once I figure out what I am going to do with it. You know the whole repaint or leave well enough alone.

Anyway it is an Eldridge "B" and the best I can tell it was made in 1885. It can not be any later than 1886 but I have a real good friend Annie looking at a bunch of photos of the machine with the serial to help me out in getting the exact year.

Hi BZ... yup, the machine is cute and the picture is nice, but can you add some info for us too? I (speaking for myself only) can't read the S/N or the name/badge or see the back motor assembly from that picture... it will help us to help you. Thanks. kwendt

Now I am sick, I made the mistake of taking DH to look at a machine just like that last summer. He talked me out of buying it because I didn't 'need' another treadle! I remember it was very reasonably priced too!

Love the machine Billy!

I just saw one like this... cept polished. On craigslist somewhere. I thought it interesting, but passed it by. I remember it because of the reallly small treadle cabinet. I only have room for one treadle, and that's going to be a 201 in a singer cabinet. Anyways, the Eldr. I saw looked fairly well kept. It's one of the Florida craigslists...

Well everyone I got my Free up and running yesterday, page 627! She sews so beautifly, very smooth running VS machine. I think, I may have to make a quilt with that one! She won't go fast no matter how fast I treadle, she has a set speed, reminds me of a pony the kids had named Banjo - he had one speed in all gaits, slow even in a lope/canter. He did not have a gallop at all. This would make accuracy very easy on piecing. I think I will call my Free Banjo!

I am finishing that machine up today and it will be boxed and ready to go home this afternoon. I love the rascal it is a rotary machine and sews a wonderful stitch. I can see why they were a popular machine in the day.

I love yours and it looks so new!!

Nancy my Eldridge will be really nice once I get finished with it but it came with all of its accessories, that to me was well worth the $40!!

Your Free is so pretty and I ma glad to hear it is up and running! Now are you going to make a quilt on it? You know that is an unwritten law around here make at least one quilt or something on each of your machines that you have from start to finish.
