Time for another German machine - Frister and Rossmann transverse shuttle from 1937. The date is actually stamped on the underneath of the cover. Believe me, this machine weighs a ton, it's an absolute monster if you see it side by side with the Vesta. It's bliss to use, and of all my machines it winds the tightest most even bobbin. As for the porcelain handle, it keeps your hand nice and cool while you're sewing.

Note the seam guide in place

On the Singer 185j, where is the serial number? I have tried locating it on mine and I just can't seem to located it. I have quite a sewing machine collection too. I love sewing machines. I started out with a singer treadle that was my mother in-law's godmother's. It need some refinishing to the cabinet. It all went down hill (according to my husband) from there. I have portables and machines in cabinets. I display them all over the house. Well, some of them anyway, others are in a shed waiting to be refinished and the machines cleaned and oiled.

Singer 401G (German) and Singer 411G (German) - notice the knock out for a treadle on the lower right corners. Also notice they are a bit different from the 401A (American) http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-43881-1202.htm#3520792
