Default RE: Featherweights

So, I'm pretty clueless about these machines. Which models are the best, the treadle or electric? Are there specific years that are more desirable than others?

One of my quilting teachers has one, mid-fifties, and it sews like a champ. That's what drew me to this forum.

Your thoughts, please.

Renate,

Featherweights never came as treadle or hand crank machines. Only electric. From their introduction to the end of production there were minor changes externally. I don't think ( my personal opinion ) there's much difference in the vintages.

Some people mistakenly call Singer 99s Featherweights because they are 3/4 size machines. But they are totally incorrect.

J Miller is right, they where always electric and I have several from years 1936 to 1960's black ones and a tan one and some very light green to almost look white to even a white one. Love them all.

Oh, my bad, I was thinking of all the Singers from the beginning. Duh.

I guess I will begin a search for (yet) another machine! These machines intrigue me.

Thanks!

I got my first last week. It's a centennial complete with card table. I wanted this particular circa and waited for it. I'm so glad I did.

I prefer my 201 to the featherweight and 301. Just can't beat carrying that 11 pound to class though. I tell sceptics that little machine will sew up a tire.

Yup, you can't beat the weight, plus they are so cute!
