Default Singer 201-2

I bought a Singer sewing machine mounted in 3 drawer desk at garage sale. The outside of the machine is pristine and it sews beautifully. It has several attachments and all books and instruction manuals. Just wanted a bit more info on the machine and if this was a good deal. Thanks. The manual says it is 201-2 with lock stitch and reversible feed. I paid 30.00 for all.

If it is a 201 you got a very good deal.

Naw, it wasn't a "good deal" ..... you stole it.

Yeah a 201-2 for that price is really an exceptional deal. When you use it just remember to grin a lot.

I've gotten some of my best deals from the St. Louis area Craigslist - helps to have a good friend living in the area that is willing to enable my addiction too.

201 oct 27 1952. As what they said - you totally stole it? Where? What city? I need to steal one also. That's a good machine. They call it the Rolls royce of singer.

Congrats on an excellent deal! We won't even discuss what I paid for my 201 handcrank.... Way more than $30. That was when I first started collecting and didn't realize you could make the old ones shine like new! You will love sewing on a 201!

Having had my 201 since I was 10, now 70 I cherish it. It was born in 1946. Still runs like the Rolls Royce that it is. The wheel is so balanced I barely have to touch it to turn it forward. So quiet. Great for piecing. You can drop the feed dogs if you flip the head back and follow the directions in the manual as to how to it. I have an FW222, equally well made, 1960 however my 201 is still my first love. Just give it good care and maintenance. I once sewed 4 layers of soft leather and made bound button holes of leather for a coat-dress I made my mother years ago.

201s are going for over $300 on ebay. I got a very dirty one and needed to be rewired one at an estate sale for $25. It took a lot of cleaning and a friend to rewire the motor, but it sings now and straight stitches unbelievable. It is a tremendous machine.
