Default Singer 6251

I had this machine gifted to me. I would like to give it to my granddaughter who does not know how to use a machine. Do you think this one would be too complicated for her to learn on? Especially since it has the wind in place bobbin.

How old is your GD? I'm not familiar with that model. If it's like a Touch & Sew (the wind in place bobbin setup sounds similar) and she's young then the owner's manual and supervision (at least at the beginning) will probably be necessary.

I think one of them would be just fine if the child is about 10 or 12. Show her how everything works and give her a manual. Then tell her that if she changes any of the settings she will HAVE to know how to put it back. If you have a younger child one of the old black Singer machines would be a lot simpler.

She is a grown woman with 2 babies. I could give her my 404 singer but I think she would be more satisfied with the one that does fancy stitches.

with any new (to you or me) machine, a manual is essential -- having you to guide her would be an even bigger plus -- reading and following instructions and having an experienced sewing machine operator available could make sewing really enjoyable!!-- you're right in that she would probably enjoy the machine with fancy stitches and some more modern thingys (thingies??)!!

Those are fairly mechanical and they do some stretch stitches and a few decorative. She should be ok with that. You could lend her the 404 to learn on then trade when she feels more comfortable.

How does the wind-in-place system work? I am intrigued because I found this Singer Machine 6251 and I don't see a spindle!

I couldn't find a manual for a 6251, but did find a couple that may be similar enough for you to figure out how to wind the bobbin.
Instructions for winding the bobbin start on page 16 of the pdf located at https://res.cloudinary.com/singer-se...ng_Machine.pdf
Instructions for winding the bobbin start on page 14 of the pdf located at https://res.cloudinary.com/singer-se...ng_Machine.pdf

We like pictures. In order to post pictures on Quilting Board, you will probably need to reduce or compress the picture to a file size that is smaller than 2MB. How to post images can be found at https://www.quiltingboard.com/attach...020-01-17-.pdf
Don't forget to scroll over to the far right to find and click on the "Upload" button.

I have found that only the big red "Reply" button or "Quote" work to give me the paper clip icon to work for adding pictures.

Some additional info regarding reducing images at post #4 and images for the scroll and upload button can be found at #5 of quilt block ID?

Another way to post pictures can be found at 2021/2022, 2.5” Birthday Swap

Or simply - Make sure pictures are smaller than 2MB
Click on red "Reply" button
Click on the paper clip icon
Click browse - choose picture/s. (only 5 allowed per post)
Once they show up as being loaded, Scroll over to the right side and click on "Upload"
After the pictures show up as being attached, you can close that window and go back to the screen to finish posting your post.

Thank you for these valuable resources. I got the machine up and running although it was winding up the thread under the bobbin. I had to put the thread through the slit on the top of the bobbin and it worked fine.
