White FWs are starting at that price on Ebay plus shipping. If it has case and accessories, then it would be worth it if you can afford it. A lady in our quilting guild has one she picked up at a yard sale and was shocked to see how much they cost on Ebay. You will be lucky to be able to test drive this one, but don't wait. It will be snapped up soon.

You can still get black ones on Ebay for around $200 for the basic machine, without much else. The white ones seem to be gaining in value. They have picked up a great deal in popularity over the last 5 years and values have risen while the black ones haven't. The more "stuff" you get with it, the more it will be worth on the market.

Those are eBay prices....the white ones are gear driven so more costly to fix whereas the black ones are belt driven, more preferably. I had a gorgeous white one that I sold to an FW repairman for $150.00....think I should have sold it for way more but at the time that price satisfied me. I didn't care much for sewing but it was pretty decent. For your neice..u r better off finding a 301, 201 at a more decent price

My mother had a white one and before I "knew" I would want it I let her give it away. Local repair man who buys and sells told me they were not as good as the black ones, but mom's sewed beauitiful and I would love to have her's back or find another one. Maybe some day, I will find one I can afford, but have enough here so do not "Need" it. But that seems high to me, $250-300 tops. If you get it enjoy it.

I got two of the white ones for three hundred each, gave one to one of my four h students and traded the other one on on a repainted black one, I like them better as the bed is larger and I also like the metal faceplates, they are cute though

The white machines are not gear driven. They have an internal belt and an external belt.

That appears to be a good price. I saw one at a flea market for $450. I've heard white ones are hard to find.

If you love the machine, buy it. Think how you will feel 5 years from now when you think of the machine that got away. But first read what Dave has to say about white Featherweights.

If I didn't have to use rent money, I would buy it.

For the area this is a good price, you don't see them advertised for this area very often. I have a white one paid $350 on e-bay + shipping and it sews beautifully.

for the few I've seen that's a good price - I looked at one priced higher once but didn't get it or the tan one at the shop either. the woman with the shop says the white ones have a little belt inside and if that sucker ever broke she doesn't know how it would/could be replaced. she buys them to re-sell if it's reasonably priced because people look for them and ask for them. personally I find the black ones with the scroll faceplate prettier myself - lucky me LOL since they're more reasonably priced around here! I have 2 but neither is in great cosmetic condition and I'm fine with that as I dont' worry so much toting them around to quilting bees...got a centennial from my mom when she passed but not sure the cosmetic shape on it but think it has the striped faceplate. I'm thinking of looking for one in really really nice cosmetic condtion (and working condtion) for her birth year just to have as my 'one nice featherweight' but haven't done so yet...

but if I came across a reallynice white one for that price and it 'called' to me then I'd probably get it.
