Default Singer Model 185-J3

Okay, here goes, I am a vintage sewing machine junkie. I surf Craigslist daily looking for vintage sewing machines. I have a 1936 Singer Featherweight in a table. A friend of mine has asked me to find a featherweight for her granddaughter.

Today I saw an ad for a Singer Model 185-J3 with a table. They are asking $50. Anyone know anything about this cute little green machine. Should I go get it tomorrow?

It's basically the same as a 99 but with the "newer" body style. There's nothing featherweight about this machine except for the Singer.
The 185 is one of the ones I still need. Well, not need. But you know... we enable here, go get it.

LOL! I have a 185 in the hoard awaiting oil and compassion lol! Yeah I would want it, if I didn't already have one. I am hopeless though..

I love those - they are great for kids to learn on. There is something very cute about them, too. As above, they are just like a Singer 99 or a 66. Simple to use. They use class 66 bobbins.

I would say, yes, go get it. I have one in the original green case with the original green foot pedal and light. I just love it. I bought it for $30. Since I have 50+ machines I rarely get to use many of them but I still cherish them. I have never seen a table like that but I also have a table for my featherweight that I found on CL for $25.

What does the "J3" mean? I know that the "J" indicates that it was made in Canada, but I've not ever heard of a number designation beyond the "J". What does the "3" mean, and is it on the nameplate of the machine?
