Vintage Industrial Needle Plates and feed dogs

It can be done, you just need all 3 of the chainstitch parts from the 411G. I made the 503 do it and posted pics on the QB at one point. The hardest part is the needle thread guide. If you don't want to drill the hole and tap the set screw, you had to kludge it. I did a temporarily Kludge with a spool pin felt and painters tape.

LOL! It took me a minute.... apparently I suffer from this too.

I am convinced that they can be. It's just a piece of flat metal bent into shape then riveted and epoxied into place. A talented fabricator could do it. I think the plate is the harder part. I don't know if that finger has to move or not, but they're always hinged.
It might be a question for SteveH... he's more in to fabricating than I am. I might be able to send a regular bobbin case and the chain capable bobbin case to him if he thinks it can be done for prototypes. (I know he's commented in this thread, so might see this and comment if he's interested) The plates are harder. I have only one chain plate, and I don't think I have a regular plate here at all that could be modified.

SteveH here... Pics of what we are talking about would help my ignorant self...
As far as fabrication, in this day and age, it is more about Time/Money/Effort than about "possible/not possible"
bring it on!

Edit: Wow. I was so sure that the QB would render those pics. If you want, I'll see if I can pull them and post them in a post below.
Hey Steve! The plate and bobbin case we're talking about is for a 411G, much too new for you.
It's a machine capable of both lockstitch and chain stitch if the right parts are supplied. The bobbin case is almost identical to the ones on a 401A for instance but for an additional "finger".

Similarly, the needle plate has an "arm" on the bottom of it that nests with the bobbin case to make the chain stitch.

http://www.quiltingboard.com/attachm...5-img_4799.jpg - this is the 600 plate on the left and the 411G plate on the right

The thread guide at the top is the last part, and unless people want to send their machines to be drilled and tapped, I'm guessing most will kludge that, unless you have ideas on that too?
