Ok...vintage sewing machine keepers....should I listen or not?
I was at a favorite quilt shop recently and found a shiny featherweight calling my name. It was made in 1953 my birth year. It had been tuned up too. We chatted for a while and I promised it I'd come back and visit it again if it was still there.
Now my questions are...
How many of you actually use your feather weight frequently or do you use them for show? What types of projects do you use it for? Are they pretty sturdy or touchy with tension etc.?
Your input will be considered in my choice.
Thanks for your time!

I know of several quilters that use theirs regularly for piecing The one thing they have in common - lack of space. So they are setting up on the dining room table each time they want to sew, and putting it all away afterwards.
Thrums, if you don't have a FW, you should get it depending on the price. I love mine. Though I don't use it every day I do use it. And it is great for traveling! How much are they asking?
I have a question on serial numbers. My Red Eye's serial number is G029692. Am I looking at it correctly on Ismacs site in thinking it is listed between G-967001 - 1007000, making it a 66 manufactured January 16, 1911? Thanks in advance.

I use my 1936 Featherweight every time I piece. LOVE HER!!! Beats my newer computer machines for a nice even stitch hands down. I also just love to look at her. She IS so cute. And she's easy to take to classes. Not touchey about thread, tension or anything else. She just sews and sews and purrrrrrs like a contented kitten.

I just got my FW a few weeks ago and haven't used it much now that I've got it all tuned up and dialed in. But I also haven't done any sewing outside of home since I got it - I am looking forward to some unofficial 'stitch & bitch' meetings with some friends over the next few weeks and will be bringing my FW to those.
I don't think that serial number is right. To my reading G029692 would be a 15 alotted in Jan 1910. But I have been wrong before!
G-1 to G-927.000 ----> 1910

You need to look at the restarted G serial numbers at the bottom of the ISMACS list: 1923.

Too many digits Mike. Her serial # has 6, not 7.
