Vintage Sewing Machine Shop.....Come on in and sit a spell
You are going to make some little kid a happy camper with this one. Very nice indeed.[/QUOTE]
Thanks Glenn. I must admit the more vintage machines I get, the less time I want to spend quilting. Bad me!!

Well that does sound smart!
My Grand Quilter has never given me a lick of trouble with the tension or anything else. I have always used King Tut quilting thread top and bottom, but I don't think it would care what I used - a very dependable machine! I can certainly see why you had a problem, though! I can't even imagine trying to quilt a large quilt with a 9" harp space when the machine is sitting on a frame and you are rolling the quilt! I have only used mine on the table with me pushing and tugging and positioning the fabric, which is really pretty easy because you don't have a big roll in the way!
Even the HQ16 is too small at times. I can do up to a 108" quilt on that frame and any length, but the larger the quilt the smaller your quilting space becomes! If I had it to do over again, I'd get at least an 18" head!

Melinda, until you lose a parent no one understands the hurt. It is like a part of you dies. You will always have your mother in your heart. I lost both my parents 6 days apart and the pain was unbearable at times, but they never really leave you, you always carry them as part of you. Parents are so much a part of who we are that they will always be with us. So sorry for your loss.

I've been in charge of charity quilts for the kids in foster care in our county this past year. The quilt guild has made about 100 of them (that's way too many abused kids !!!). Here is a simple pattern that we use a lot. It is one of the Quiltmaker.com Linus projects. It is cute with kids fabric and beautiful with a gorgeous floral print for nursing home quilts.

The Linus Connection makes quilts and yarn blankets for children from infant to teens, they go to foster kids, several local hospitals and group homes for kids and also teen mothers and their babies. Since 1999 we've given almost 40,000 handmade quilts and yarn blankets. Our sizes are 30"x30" to 54"x 70". All of the quilts/blankets stay in central Texas. Our director calls us Blanketeers. www.linusconnection.org

I use my vintage machines to piece the quilts and the modern Viking for the quilting part. So get to play with more of my toys.

Hollyann, For some reason, I can't paste in the link here. So, you will have to google that information. Look for Treadle Lady, Donna Kohler, you tube video on bobbin winding. The first minute into her video, she shows you how to release the stop motion screw. Hope that answers your question.

Jan, I love that pattern! So quick and so colorful....we have a Quilts for Kids local chapter in Bakersfield, now, and are always looking for quick and easy patterns to use. I think I'll show this one to them, if it's OK with you? Thanks for your charity work, and for showing this quilt!!
Thanks! I saw that pretty one! I noticed you used batiks in that quilt. One of my favorite fabrics. I was wondering if you like using batiks lots in your quilts, and what your other quilts look like. Your beautiful hand painting on the side of the cabinet got me curious as to what your quilt work looks like. Okay, so I'm nosy.

OK, so anyone in our general area, our guild, Cotton Patch Quilters of Kern, are having our bi-annual show this coming weekend. Saturday & Sunday 1/28 & 29, 10:00-5:00, Kern County Fairgrounds, $5, husband & kids free, parking free, 205 quilts entered, some judged, some display, antique/vintage sewing machines exhibit, demonstrations, Bed Turning, raffle baskets, 20+ vendors, plus onsite food available for purchase. Country Store with donated items for sale, plus Opportunity Quilt raffle drawing on Sunday at 4:00. Did I miss anything? Oh, and I am honored to be Chair of this show....quite a humbling experience, I assure you!!! :-)
Hope some of you can come!!! Look for the most harried woman in the place, and that will be me!!! LOL
