No Miriam you wipe the oil off with naptha or lighter fluid. The alcohol will take the oil off but well remove what shellac is left on the decals. Ok lets stay away from the decals until we have smooth the shellac over the machine with out decals. With this method we are really redistributing the shellac not removeing it. But like I told Charlee if you are worried about the decals get some clear shellac spray and spray them then smooth the orange peel with the final smoothing or adding more shellac to the machine.

You can add shellac to the finish at anytime by dipping finger in shellac the with a few drops of oil instead of alcohol if you think it is to thin in spots. The idea here is to smooth the rough brown looking shellac so the clear coat is smooth and shiny. Then we usually add more shellac finish if needed. The alcohol is actually melting the old shellac so it will blend with the shellac that is smooth. We are not removing shellac just redistributing it.

Please give me some feed back during your clear coat cleaning. I would like to know if it is working for you. Laura said she loved the results. Don't hesitate to ask any questions you may have. So now go out and get the stuff and start cleaning the clear coat. You will find it is really very easy to do. Skipper
I'm nervously thru the lighter fluid and the denatured alcohol...there are spots that shine (total lack of shellac, I think) and the rest of it is dull, not at all shining...

Charlee usually the spots that shine are shellac the dull spots are the brown shellac that as collected and bunched up. Japan is a satin finish until the clear coat (shellac is applied) Do the dull spots loolk like the before pics I posted earlier if so you are not finish with the treatment. You can post a pic if you like and I will take a look at it.
Pics to follow...they won't load in this post.
