That's funny Cathy. I have a HUGE monkey wrench that I threaten my machines with. I even had to use it once. Best of all it is a vintage monkey wrench that belonged to my dad. I am also going to see if one of my Japanese clones will fit in a Singer cabinet.
I did use a hammer once. It was a rubber mallet and I needed to get the hand wheel off. Used it very gently and sparingly but it did the trick. Not a recommended method, I realize, but a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do.
Hummmm, I have never had any luck switching any machine with another machine, except Singers to Singers! It is good to know the Japanese machine may work in a Singer cabinet! If I don't get my 319 to work right, I just might have to do a switch! Cathy, maybe I need that big hammer!
I am excited to get Rodney - not sure what my Rod with think about it! I am sure he will think they were crazy to name a machine Rodney! I can't wait to get the machine just to see Rod's expression when he sees his name across the front! So cool! Then Miriam, I am going to tell him the whole story - even the question about the pink controller that choked Cathy when she read it!

Cathy, I'm so sorry... I didn't glue any lace onto that pink controller - you are going to have to fix her up - maybe some wiggle eyes with long eye lashes or something... When you tell him you have to be sure to tell him Lovie was making sure we didn't send you Cinderella - Rodney is ok to send but I can't send Cinderella - that is two times she had me make sure Cinderella was still there.
I think you can put Rodney in a treadle that a Singer 66 will fit in.

Ok everyone, I messed with my 319 and she is stitching everything again. Don't ask me what I did because I don't know what I did! I just moved the position finger ever so slightly. I didn't retime the machine this time. I am getting all the stitches - no skipped stitches and no broken needles. Anyway, I really love that 319w, but I am getting really tired of getting so intimate with that machine! Cathy, if this happens again - would you look at this machine! I don't seem to have the correct touch to keep her happy!

Nancy,
My wife's 319K is also picky about the position of the needle position lever. If it's not right on it just won't cooperate. I keep thinking it should have more pronounced detentes but it doesn't.
Glad you got it figured out.

I played in the shop a little today. I found some old attachment - I took it apart and oiled it - works a bit smoother now. I'm wondering if it needs the feed dogs down to use?

after shot pics I cleaned and oiled it. I don't think it was ever used. I have two of them. it has little metal disks - you can see one on the side of it - makes different zz type designs.
