Check out this thread- it has some good ideas for this type of thing.

I would suggest making a little wider seams on this quilt. That will give it a little more stability for heavy use. Maybe you could zigzag around the satin. Or, when I use satin in quilts, I use quilt basting spray and "glue" it to a piece of muslin. It helps to stabilize it for sewing.

I would like to see pictures of this quilt when you're done! I bet it will be cute and the little guy will love it. (And I bet his mom and dad will be really touched by your thoughtful gesture!)
