I watched a Ricky Tims show where Phillipa Naylor free motion quilted on a domestic machine. She used a piece of shelf liner laying flat on the quilt top(the kind that looks almost like woven) a little bit larger than her hand. She finds it more convenient if needing to pick up something than taking a glove off. Worth trying?
