I know how you feel - everything all mixed up together - being sad, proud, lost, proud, worried, proud, scared, proud, so full of love it runneth over and your goodbye hug will be so tight you won't be able to engulf him enough in your arms and you won't want to let go, you want to protect him and not let anything or anyone hurt him but at the same time you want him to grow into a responsible adult and be a man and you are and will continue to be so PROUD. You will always remember his swearing-in ceremony if you're lucky enough to be there, and the tears will come and your heart will burst and you will never feel more proud and the American Flag will never be more beautiful. And when he graduates from Basic, this will happen all over again.

Ask me how I know.

Write him as often as you can, send him treats, find out from the Army Family Services or the Red Cross what he needs and send him care packages, encourage him and praise his accomplishments. Always let him know he has your support and that of your family and that his country appreciates what he is doing.

I will keep him in my prayers. Please thank him for me for his service. We are all proud of our military and what they do.

I think you've "done good" raising him. He'll be OK, mom.
