This is the way I was taught to make it.
Wash berries, add water to barely cover, sweeten to taste, heat to melt sugar. Taste again, remember to make it sweeter than you want the cobbler to turn out.
Mix approximately 1 cup self rising flour, pinch salt 1/4 teaspoon baking powder, add water and stir till smooth. Bring backberry mixture to a rolling boil. Drop dumblings by teaspoonfuls into boiling mixture. Allow to return to boil between adding dumplings.
Allow last batch to boil 3 minutes. That is it.
The dumplings may be rolled and the same recipe works for dumpling with chicken.
And yes, I really do mean use self rising and add baking power and salt.
