Weesie - Thank you for your kind comment about my avatar quilt. This was a batik quilt I made for my oldest daughter. It was adapted from a pattern called "Kaleidoscope" in a book from Leisure Arts called "Encyclopedia of Classic Quilt Patterns" published in 2001. We added the sashing because we didn't do a very good job of picking out light fabrics so all the hidden circles would pop out. It just need some place for the eyes to rest and the sashing gave us that.
