I do measure through the middle three times usually. Short cuts don't work. I guess I had a senior moment there. The quilt is so square I thought it might work out. It was a big reminder that it doesn't. It was explained to me by my walking buddy how to make it fit with mitered corners. I think mitered corners will only be for smaller projects from now on too.

Another thing newbies might want to take note of is: Do not measure the edges of your quilt for borders. Measure through the centers! You can always ease in a bit of stretchiness and get everything nice and square. I mark centers and quarters - eighths if I need to - and ends to make sure that any easing I need to do is evened out.
