I'm sure you could make one out of template plastic, but since money isn't that much of an issue for me, and time is, I would rather just buy what works for me. Besides I love sewing gadgets. That miter tool seemed expensive at the time, but since mitering was always such a problem for me I felt it was worth it. And now that I have it I use it all the time.
what a clever idea. I had not thought ever of trying to do that! (but of course with making big quilts, I am much the amateur (speilling?) and it seems it would be so much easier to use the backing with the fabric brought forward for binding. I really like that idea. Now to find that tool in my little city. 8000 population if you count the inmates in the prison 7 miles down the road. giggling
