I had to only cut off an inch. It was glued on big time and I wasn't going to fuss over it for an inch. In the wash it goes today.

Thanks for the links about silk. I'm assuming there's a silk batting on the market. I'll have to google. This sounds like one of those projects that I'll put aside to "investigate" and do later and will look at for about 5 years before deciding to put it back in the closet for another 5 years. LOL!
