I use the same type of rectangle plastic boxes. I bought the size of tub where I can lay out a 12x12 block in it. They are about 4" deep.
I keep my pattern/directions, all of the material I bought for that project and the receipts for the material in case I have to go back and look for the same material. I have about 4 or 5 of these boxes and it is very easy to grap the project I'm working on and take it to which ever room I need to use it.
