Manufacturers are laying off workers and then hiring thru a temp company paying no benefits and low wages and when your 3 months are up they find a reason to let you go so you cannot draw UE. I had an interview last month for a part time shipping job that paid $8 hr and you had to receive 75-100 pkgs., re-pack and re-ship them in 4.5 hours. Was told I would be expected to "hustle" the whole time I was there with no break. I had to take an aptitude test and a psychological test. Really stupid questions. Fat, female, 50 -no jobs available unless you are willing to drive over 100 miles a day for less than $8. So much for the stimulus package!!! Sorry for the rant but UE is up next week and if I cannot get some sewing (alterations) in I will have to resort to DH paying my bills. Luckily he is a truck driver and he is working 55-60 hrs a week.
About the same here. I was laid off June '09 after 3 years with P.O.. Very low mail volume not enough to keep 4 of us, so we were let go. The news tells people that the UE is better, no we're just at the end of our UE time. Most of us still don't have jobs and no more UE money, which takes us off the record as being UE! Thankfully my DH has a well established job and has taken on a part-time job. And our 19 y/o DD is working and in her second year of college, but she's juggling nicely and helping with the bills that used to be mine. I worked with the Census earlier this year for several weeks, other than that no response from job applications. Sometimes I think it's an age thing as well, I'm almost 40, DD didn't have a problem getting her resturant job.
