I have a female that does the same thing!
Does your cat meow as it brings it in to you?
I now wake up when I hear that certain meow and know she is bringing home a treasure. What finally happened is my younger male has also learned that meow and jumps up and catches whatever it is. I tell him to take it outside and he does!!
Buddy is very quiet, he's not much of a talker unless you have shut the door on him. Then he has plenty to say while he's body slamming it and trying to get all 4 legs under it as well.
