I was told by a sewing machine dealer that the cheaper models of Brother (or other brands) that you get from low cost sources (i.e., WM) are made with inferior products (i.e., plastic parts) & don't hold up as well. That's why they are cheaper. Of course, they would discourage people from buying a cheaper product than theirs, but I tend to believe it.
