I agree, give them as birthday gifts, thinking of you gifts or whatever throughout the year. The person's whose name is on it will by delighted to receive it another time.
Don't get down in the dumps about it, maybe the others just couldn't do exchanges this year for financial reasons etc. Keep your spirits up, bright and happy. I'm sure this was not a reflection on you or your handwork!
