Please don't get me wrong, I am NOT against hunting, I just feel that if I did it, there would be a moment when I saw the deer as a beautiful, living creature and feel regret that I had to kill it.[/quote]

Yes, I suspect every one does at some time or other. But I remember to this day one of my uncles telling a soft hearted lady why it was not bad to kill deer. He said that since she was a farmer, she should understand. Said to take one bull and one cow and put them in a pasture big enough to feed them well. Then let them breed for 10 years, not removing any at all and how would all those cows and bulls look then, with nearly denuded pastures? Let all the wild animals breed with no culling and you get starving animals who are not good for even us to eat. Wolves and foxes maybe..dogs maybe.
I grew up during the depression, and hunting sure did add a lot to our breakfast and supper table that we didn't have to pay for. Even with raising our own cow and pig and chickens, dear meat was darn good to eat, canned and eaten during snowy weather it was delicious. I would hunt with my aunt, who was a good shot, she said hunger was a great teacher. We ate pretty well when city folks were begging for food in big towns.
