I bet you could do it easily. It is one of those things that once you know the trick it is easy to make.
All you need to do to make the star is to take that HST and cut a 30 degree line and then sew on another piece of fabric and cut out a square from the center. Then you just need as many of these as the pattern calls for and you sew them together the same way as HSTs. It is really alot easier than it looks!
