Another is a simple 9 patch pillow. Oldest DGD (8 yrs) wanted to make a quilt. She was only spending one night, so grammy came up with the idea of a pillow. She matched seams, stuffed and whipped stitched it close. She then entered it in the county fair . . . first place.... she was one happy kid! Still has the pillow and talks about 'sewing with grammy'.
