My 7 yr old GD wants to "practice" sewing w/me when we visit in Jan. We did this a year ago and made a tiny sleeping bag for her stuffed cat. Anyone have any ideas for a very beginner project we could do?

A four patch with a cute focus fabric as an alternating block. A nine patch would also be fun. Cute focus fabric would probably be the key (smile). What fun.

My 7 yr old DGD is making a D9P out of my scrap box of 5" scraps. She is having fun watching the 'magic' happen when Grammy slices her blocks and then she sews them back together. It's fun to watch her choose the fabrics. She just completed a very simple Halloween wall hanging using fusible web of a spider and web. There are no crooked seams or wonky pieces in our sewing salon ... we meant it to look that way. Just remember to keep it fun.

Pillow cases are easy and fast to sew. They offer instant gratification. Something that kids and adults like!

How about 'magic pillowcases' aka 'burrito pillowcases'. Below are the ones that grands and I made . . . the younger two had never sewed before this. link; http://with-heart-and-hands.blogspot...-tutorial.html

Another is a simple 9 patch pillow. Oldest DGD (8 yrs) wanted to make a quilt. She was only spending one night, so grammy came up with the idea of a pillow. She matched seams, stuffed and whipped stitched it close. She then entered it in the county fair . . . first place.... she was one happy kid! Still has the pillow and talks about 'sewing with grammy'.

Grandkids ages 6, 8, & 9
