I store my quilted wall hangings by rolling several of them together around a cardboard tube that I have covered with flannel or by winding strips of batting around them to cover the tube. Instead of pinning or tying with a strip of ribbon or fabric I wrap a long strip of batting around the outside. No pins to worry about and no crease where the strip was tied. I also keep a bunch of small pieces to layer up with fabric to test my stitch and thread color when I am getting ready to machine quilt.
