I've know a couple of folks like that over the years. Personally if someone asks for a recipe or a pattern I am flattered and will go to great lengths to provide it. My little craft club is made up of seniors like me and we trade recipes, sewing projects, and ideas of all sorts.
As one member suggested, take a picture and post it here. I think she is right, you'll have the name of the pattern before the day is out.
