I don't know if this helps you choose a quilting pattern, but the title makes me think of 'Little Red Riding Hood' or 'Hansel and Gretel' --- blackbirds come to mind, also. hhhmmmm ..... maybe quilt small footprints (or animal paw prints or a trail of leaves....) wandering from tree to tree.
