I have six dogs and the female did this to us for quite some time. I finally shut her in the bathroom and made her sleep in there for a bit (she is not a barker to be let out, but would pester and stick her nose in my face to get me up). It is probably a habit more than anything and once the habit developed that we sleep through the night, I now know when she wakes me she REALLY needs to go.
