I would wash the fabric at a laundry mat with baking soda. That worked for me when I had a leak and didn't find it before some of the material was mildewed. I was going to toss it, but I thought what have I got to loose so I washed it and the baking soda worked. I only lost a couple of yards of fabric and that was because it it had a white background and the spots would not come out.
