We used to run a disaster restoration biz. My understanding is that water is the medium that carries everything from the origin of the leak to its termius. i.e. roofing,insulation,paint,wallboard,...whatever. If there is an insurance claim involved work with the adjuster. But my take on the wash-no wash, is to wash anything you really want. That is what I would do...check frequently when you put them back for mold,mildew and odor. Sounds like you have your work cut out for you. Best wishes.
