My mom & dad followed my sister from NY to Dallas, TX, and then 10-12 years later, followed her again to Western NC. NY was too cold in the winter, Dallas ended up being too hot in the summer, and NC is somewhere in the middle, except this year, when they've been inundated with snow!!
If it was me, I'd be tempted to go. The looking for a job while on vacation sounds like a brilliant idea!! God bless, whatever you decide.
