I had the same problem of cutting into the next piece even if it was only about a 1/4 -1/2 inch. I just ironed on a little piece of interfacing over the cut and sewed it up anyway. I wasn't going to cut a new block as I didn't have more fabric. Hopefully it withstands washing.
