I have the same problem. sometimes I put a piece of paper behind the machine needle so I can see the hole. The built in one doesn't always work for me either. I also make sure i cut the end of the thread before I try. If it is "fuzzy' from the trhead cutter it won't hit the eye for me. So much for my relaxing hobby.
