Whatever you decide, get the money up front! My daughter did a painting for someone of a very specific subject and he lost interest and wouldn't reply to any of her calls. People want to BUY IT NOW and don't understand that these things take time.
I smocked and appliqued reversible toddler clothes & sold them 20 ago and barely paid for the fabric much less the time! It was very discouraging--I love to make quilts for other people but it is my inspiration, my creatiion so I have fun. I ask about a color palette or some design idea and go from there. My DIL is from Denmark and I am making everyone in her family a quilt. when I asked for colors-they said black and white. I asked what colors their rooms were painted and they are all white! It was a challenge but now I love black and white quilts and fabrics are easier to find . I'm about to start on one that is all black and white batiks-no color.
