I use nexcare first aid tape made by 3M. I put a strip around the ruler leaving a 1/4 " from side. If it is a large ruler I put some strips in middle, if you hold down where the tape is is does not slip. Cheaper than anything else I have tried. Used some of the slip stuff but pulled it off and use the tape it has a ruff surface.
