I usually chain piece, trim, and then get up to iron. Works for me. I have tried to lower my ironing board and put it on the side of my sewing table so I don't have to get up, but I find I need to move or I get stiff.
At our last guild retreat, I did notice someone had covered a TV tray table with a few layers of batting to use as an ironing station next to her. Looked like a good idea.
